Dynamic Data Placeholders in Emails

How to create/edit dynamic placeholders

Accessing Dynamic Placeholder

In the email toolbar (found under Communicate > Emailer or Easy Builder), click on the "Merge" button in the email builder toolbar to insert in placeholders. From here, go to the Dynamic Rule tab to create or edit dynamic placeholders.

How Dynamic Placeholder Works

Dynamic Data allows you to set rules for your placeholders. You can use Dynamic Data to logically include message content based on the information you have stored about the Lead in their record.

You can create a simple rule like "If Phone contains '1-212', replace the placeholder with 'You are in New York'" to something more complex that involves user-defined field data.

Place the cursor in the body of the email where you want to include the dynamic placeholder and click on the “Merge” button in the builder toolbar.

You can either choose a previously saved dynamic data placeholder or click on the “New Rule” button to create a new one.

Creating New Dynamic Placeholders

If you choose to create a new rule, you will start by naming it (make sure you name it something you will be able to quickly reference when using it again) and start to build your rule.

Use the "Else if" fields to create additional rules. You can have as many as you like, but must add up to 9 at a time. (after 9 additional "Else if" fields, save the rule and open it again). Each rule will be applied in the order it is entered.

Use the "Otherwise" data field to specify what you will put in the message if the rule is not met. Using the above example, if the phone number did not contain '1-212', you could place "You are not in New York" in the message.

Once you have created your rule, click the “Save Rule” button and then you are ready to insert it into your landing page by clicking the “Insert Dynamic Data Placeholder” button.

You cannot use pipe characters ( | ) in your dynamic rule. We will clear out any pipes added to your rule once you have saved it.

Editing Placeholder

To make changes to an existing dynamic rule, simply click on the rule you wish to edit and update the information on the right of the screen. Remember to click "Save Rule" once you are done!
